Project Description:

J&J Contractors, Inc. was contracted with the United States Army Corps of Engineers to construct a new 8,000SF state of the art Government material testing lab at the U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center in Natick, MA.  This facility is one of two facilities of its kind in the entire country.

The building consisted of a partially pre-engineered building and a partial explosion proof concrete building.  The facility includes new laboratories and testing facilities to provide testing of commonly used uniforms and support equipment under controlled conditions to determine their ability to protect against thermal effects on a battlefield from microwave, laser, fire, or other thermal sources.

This facility will provide the center’s researchers with unprecedented capabilities to evaluate the effect of flame and thermal threats against protective clothing and individual equipment. It also will assist in the development of new and improved materials for flame and thermal protection for the individual soldier.

Changes included installation of an acid waste underground storage tank, electrical system upgrades, and fire alarm system changes.
