Project Description:

J&J Contractors, Inc. was selected through the State of Massachusetts DCAM competitive bid program as the general contractor for the Dr. Albert F. Argenziano Community School in Somerville.

The Dr. Albert F. Argenziano School project consisted of the construction of a new 3-story, 110,000SF building. The foundation of the facility was based on approximately 420 steel piles with a double reinforced concrete slab.  The building shell was comprised of masonry veneer, window curtain walls, and metal panels.

During construction, extra safety precautions were necessary as a live MBTA commuter rail line ran 10’ from the construction zone.  J&J Contractors, Inc. worked closely with the MBTA to ensure all precautions were strictly adhered to. Special arrangements were made to hire a MBTA flagman to supervise the commuter rail activity as construction took place near the rear of the building.

The project schedule of 16 months was exceedingly restricted due to needing the building completed before the subsequent school year as students and furniture were placed in temporary locations.

J&J Contractors, Inc. worked closely with the architect, engineers, and the City of Somerville to resolve any issues in an expeditious manner while providing solutions to any possible concerns to successfully deliver the project within the precise timetable.
