J&J Contractors, Inc. completed a project for the Lowell Regional Transit Authority (LRTA), a subsidiary of the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA), at the North Billerica Commuter Rail Station in North Billerica, MA. The Commuter Rail Station of North Billerica was a historical preservation project and is listed as such a landmark with the Massachusetts Historical Society.
Starting in December of 1997, J&J commenced the $2,028,000 historical renovation of the 1,800 SF commuter rail station.
The project was substantially completed in October of 1998 and included 865 SF of inbound and outbound access platform with an earth support system, inbound and outbound handicap platforms, 45,000 SF of a new parking area drainage system, and new site and platform lighting. The renovations were completed while allowing the commuter rail service to run uninterrupted and within their normal operating schedule.
